idk why, but the way mormons fabricated a false history where white people were the original inhabitants of North America makes my BLOOD BOIL.

honestly, I shouldn’t be surprised that this came from the church that openly dismissed black people as “demons born on earth”.

Oh man it’s so much worse, because in their mythos, some of the descendants of the white people who supposedly came to North America got cursed with dark skin because they were bad, and then they killed all the righteous white people (I mean, a lot happened in between those two things, but that’s the core narrative of the Book of Mormon), which, according to Joseph Smith, is why Native Americans have dark skin.

Racism is baked in to the core, founding doctrines of Mormonism; from its beginnings, church leadership has continually given sermons treating Native Americans as fallen and less-than. For example, the church ran residential programs not dissimilar to the ones in Canada, where Native children were taken from their families and forced to assimilate into Mormon culture. This continued into the 80s, with church leaders even claiming that some of the kids’ skin became whiter.

There are also quite a few Mormon archaeologists (mostly in meso-american archaeology) who have deliberately twisted or undermined work done by Native American archaeologists and anthropologists to try to create fake evidence for the Book of Mormon. Also, Mormons appropriate Native cultures all the time for pageants, youth camps, object lessons in sermons, and so much more, and they feel completely justified in doing so because in a lot of ways Mormons feel like they know more about Native cultures than the actual members of those cultures (by virtue of knowing about their “real origins and history” via the Book of Mormon).

This barely scratches the surface of Mormonism’s antipathy towards Native Americans, and it’s not even getting into their absolutely horrific treatment of Black people and Pacific Islanders. It is a fundamentally racist religion, and the church has done very little to change that through its history, except when forced to.

And remember that accidents means like any accident, car accident, falling off a roof, slipping on ice, whatever. naturally this is the leading cause of death for teens, except in Utah, where instead it’s suicide. And I know from personal experience, both from my own attempts and the many attempts of kids I know and knew, that this is directly related to the Mormon church

This is actually even worse tho because lately there’s been a huge rise in lgbt+ youth who instead of leaving the church like the rest of us did, are now staying because they’re not outright rejected, but they’re seeing their sexuality as a sickness and forcing themselves into straight relationships because being gay is just a trial from god and he wants them to overcome it. It’s so sad and fucked
  3. corvidd said: The church recently decided to accept lgbt+ people cause they were loosing members over their homophobia. One of the 12 guys who can chat with god said god changed his mind or something and being gay is no longer a sin! It’s totally fine and god loves gay people! Just as long as they never actually act on their gay desires that is. ((: When I asked about this I was told that being gay is like being an alcoholic, it’s a sickness you don’t choose to have and it’s okay, as long as you don’t drink.
  4. corvidd said: The whole “baptisms for the dead” thing is treated as a fun little service event, and preformed almost exclusively by youth, starting when you turn 13. The young woman’s and young men’s groups go and basically go down a list of names and get baptized as a proxy for someone dead cause I guess you can’t go to heaven or hell if you aren’t baptized and your soul just waits around till some living teenager gets dunked in water under your name and after that god will finally judge you.
  5. corvidd said: Some other fun facts! Sex before marriage is a terrible sin. Alcohol and even caffeine is not okay. God came from another planet with other gods? And if you’re good you get to be a god of your own planet?? But no one ever really talks about it because it’s confusing. Also the Mormon god has a name but like 75% of Mormons don’t actually know what it is?? Because the church doesn’t ever actually teach it’s members their own beliefs. It’s Elohim btw

It is still illegal federally according to the Edmunds Act.” It also then goes to say how the US government actually had to directly threaten the Mormon church and use congress to make polygamy illegal in the late 1800s because of how widespread it was in utah.
  7. corvidd said: For example, there’s a lot of polygamist Mormons in utah :,) who just aren’t legally married to all their wives, and the wives are totally fine with it cause the church teaches that woman were put on earth for men and it’s their duty to have children. As a kid I would always say I didn’t want to have kids (still don’t) and people would tell me it’s my job to have children for my future husband and that I can’t go to heaven if I don’t. Also! From the Wikipedia page for Legality of Polygamy:
  8. corvidd said: I was raised Mormon (in SLC Utah) and oh boy is it something. My mom and siblings still are and even tho I’ve distanced myself as much as possible from the church I still hear things from them that it’s honestly horrifying sometimes. It’s such a creepy brainwashed religion and there’s so many things in it that are just incredibly fucked up. And the Mormons in utah are way more extreme than anywhere else.
